AMUSE-BOUCHES

Start with simple-to-serve appetizers that can be eaten at room temperature. Think of something that can be prepared in advance & easy to divide up, such as salads (pasta, beet, potato), spreads (hummus, tapenade) or puff pastries.

COLD PLATES

A well-stocked charcuterie & cheese platter is one of the fundamental components of a Christmas meal. Here's how to make it as beautiful as it is delicious.

Vary textures & flavors by selecting a mix of creamy, mature, hard & soft cheeses.

Choose classic cheeses with a festive touch, such as:

Brie & Camembert (soft cheeses)
Emmental, Gouda (hard cheeses)
Blue or Gorgonzola (blue-veined cheeses)
Mozzarella & Le Saint-Paulin (semi-hard cheeses)

Here are some ideas for cold cuts:

Cured ham (Parma ham, prosciutto)
Dry sausage or salami
Rillettes (duck or pork)
Homemade pâté or terrine

Garnish with a few gherkins or olives, not forgetting crackers & pieces of fresh baguette. Add nuts, fresh fruit like grapes, pears or strawberries, preserves (figs, onions, etc.), or honey to balance out some cheeses. 🍯

DESSERTS

Christmas desserts are a must. Ask everyone to bring a traditional dessert like a Yule log, Christmas cookies (gingerbread, shortbread) or fruit tarts... Christmas (!!). A varied dessert buffet is always a big hit.

FOR DRINKS?

Make sure you have a good selection of beverages, including non-alcoholic options such as fruit punches and sparkling sodas. For adults, mulled wine, spiced cider or cocktails can add a special kick. 🍹

TIPS for getting organized:

While the potluck is an ideal opportunity to take the stress out of meal preparation, a certain amount of organization is necessary to ensure a successful event.

1- Create a list or shared board so that everyone can sign up and choose a dish to bring. This ensures that there is a variety of dishes and avoids duplication.

2- Make sure there's enough room for dishes to be displayed & easy to reach. If possible, install labels or cards to identify the different dishes (especially if you have guests with allergies or specific diets).

3- Provide storage containers to take leftovers away with you at the end of the meal. 🤤

By following these tips, you'll be able to have a varied menu & showcase a magnificent charcuterie and cheese platter. Offer an unforgettable experience & don't forget to communicate well & be flexible: a successful potluck relies above all on good humor & the spirit of sharing!
